Every new download is silently renamed with a sortable yyMMdd-HHmmss timestamp. Choose between three naming modes, organize files into subfolders by type, and browse a searchable history — all from the popup. Complete the steps below to get the most out of it.
Without pinning, HushDown stays hidden; you'd have to open the 🧩 menu every time.
Find the 🧩 icon on the right side of Chrome's address bar and click it to open the extension list.
Locate HushDown in the list.
Click the 📌 pin icon next to HushDown. It will now appear in your toolbar.
To receive preview notifications when a download completes, Windows needs permission to show Chrome notifications.
Press Windows + I or open Settings from the Start menu.
Go to System, then select Notifications.
Find Google Chrome in the app list and set notifications to On.
To see inline previews of downloaded images in notifications and the download list, grant the extension access to local files.
Type chrome://extensions in the address bar.
Click the Details button on the HushDown card.
Scroll down and toggle Allow access to file URLs on.
It runs quietly in the background — no action needed from you.
Pick a mode in the popup's segment control: Timestamp (e.g. 260529-235512.png), Stamp+Name (timestamp plus original filename), or Original (site's suggested name, sanitized). Your preference syncs across Chrome.
Optionally sort downloads into subfolders by file type — images, documents, videos, and more — all inside your normal Downloads folder.
A desktop notification appears when a download completes. For images, the picture itself is shown as a preview. Click the notification to reveal the file in its folder.
Open the extension to browse up to 200 recent downloads with thumbnails for images. Search by filename, click a row to open the file, or use × to remove an entry.
chrome://settings/downloads in the address bar and change the Location. HushDown always saves files to Chrome's current default download folder.HushDown is an experimental digital project by Hidroteknik. It is free and open-source, built for anyone who wants a cleaner, quieter download experience.
